ABOUT THE RAT
It is an unfortunate fact that, in the West at least, the Rat has
gained such an unfortunate reputation, for this animal is
undoubtedly one of the cleverest and most resourceful creatures on
the Earth. Staggering stories exist, bearing testimony to the
tenacity, courage and downright cheek of this representative of the
rodent family, which certainly had a bearing on the Chinese sages of
old, who recognised in people related to this section of the zodiac,
some of the Rat's good and bad qualities.First and foremost the Rat is a charmer. Male and female Rats alike
are affable, intelligent and disarming. When it comes to getting
things done in a practical sense, like the ro dent whose name they
have inherited, both Mr and Miss Rat can be guaranteed to work out
any problem in double quick time and come up with what is usually an
ingenious solution. You can't miss these endearing and disarming
types, especially at a party or any other social gathering. They
will be the ones holding court in the midst of the room. Comfortable
in just about any sort of company and able to discourse,
interestingly if not always knowledgeably, on any subject under the
sun.
Tremendous energy attends every action of this quickwitted
character, together with versatility and a speculative turn that
makes the Rat probably the most instinctive gambler in the Chinese
zoo. Not that this always turns out to be a positive attribute of
course, for the Rat can be a regular loser, even if it is capable of
making spectacular gains too.
Although the Rat can talk to all manner of people, you will find him
or her most at home in the company of individuals who they have come
to trust implicitly; and once you gain the confidence of the Rat,
there is virtually no limit to the amount of effort that will be put
in on your behalf. The Rat cares little for what other people think
and will support you through thick and thin if it really takes a
shine to you. If, on the other hand, you are less well starred on
the Rat's list of intimates, you may need to be a little more
careful, because this creature is very manipulative, not always
entirely ethical and is definitely willing to put one over on you if
it proves possible to do so. The Rat looks after itself and those it
takes to as well, if not better, than any of its animal counterparts
and cares very deeply for its family.
