ABOUT THE DOG

Once again those observant Chinese scribes of old can be congratulated, not just on account of their knowledge of astrology, but also for their meticulous observance of the world around them; for the good old domestic Dog bears many striking similarities to those people who are affected by the sign named after it.

Probably the most significant likeness lies in the naturally protective quality of the sign, for Dogs are people who want to put a caring arm around anyone who they take to. They can be very brave when it comes to defending the individuals who they see as being their responsibility, which in the case of some Dogs at least is all of humanity.

Dog-people are certainly not backward when it comes to having their say. This is a communicative sign that demands to be listened to, and one that could become rather excitable and nervy on those occasions when it is ignored.

As with many signs, there is a slight contradiction relating to the Dog, because this is the sort of person who is also given to short but intense periods of solitude and silence. Usually this would come about as a result of the Dog finding itself amongst people or situations inclined to upset its natural sense of balance. However, the Hound is not a sulker by nature and can always be expected to be on top form quite quickly.

Dog people are fun to have around, and though given to being pessimistic when things are going wrong, it doesn't take much effort to make them light-hearted again. The secret lies in the fact that to the dog, no mood lasts, though this can make it difficult on occasions to know exactly where you stand with this somewhat mercurial character.

The Dog is demure, can charm the skin off a rice-pudding and needs to feel wanted. The nervous system is not especially strong, so the Dog tends to worry about things too much, requiring much encouragement and support from loved ones if it is to give of its best.
The honesty of this person is rarely in doubt, though many Dogs hold radical views and are rarely to be considered conventional. Fully understanding what it is that makes this person tick is never going to be easy, particularly since the Dog him or herself probably is not all that certain either.
